Many things written in novels are exactly what the writer shows you. I don't have any deep construct idea about what the Hall is or how it works, save what I showed you. Sorry to admit that it's a "Hollywood set" with nothing behind the doors, but most fiction isn't like a game design where everything has to lead to something else.
