After the success of Magician were you pressured to write a second book as good or better?

Actually, Magician wasn't a "huge success." At least not for a while. It started off modestly and grew. Silverthorn was half written by the time Magician came out in trade paper, and it wasn't until Darkness shipped in paperback that things blew up, for it reached the New York Times bestseller list.

My 2nd bestseller, and first in hardcover, was Prince of the Blood.

After that, life changed.

As for "as good or better," you don't think about stuff like that. You think about making each story do what you want, and let others worry about as good or better.

Best, R.E.F.
