Originally, the Hall was dreamed up by Jon Everson, who had it under a bar in LaMut in his campaign. His Hall was much more confined and limited, more like an entrance to a half-dozen other worlds, sort of thing.
My version, I dreamed it up for my short story, Profit and the Grey Assassin, and didn't even know I was going to use it again until I was in Darkness, plotting the cosmological stuff. Literally, when I did the scene in the Garden at the edge of The City Forever, and they were looking for a portal home, that's when I realized they were heading for the Hall.
