Did you have the whole history of Midkemia worked out years before the books?

The history of the Kingdom (and to a far lesser degree, Kesh) was worked out over a period of years by Stephen Abrams and Jon Everson, the two "fathers" of Midemia.  I'm one of the "founders," in many ways, and certainly my voice is the one most commonly heard on "things Midkemian" but it's not the only one, nor is it more valid or more correct than any of a number of other people's.  Just the one most likely to be published.

For those who don't know, Midkemia began as an environment for an FRP back in the early 1970's, and evolved.  We've been at this longer than 20 years now (I don't play, but others still do).

While the "stories" in game were "background" sorts of things, "You don't want to go to Sethanon, because legend says there's a giant jeweled dragon there!"  I'm telling the "history" of Midkemia, as the game environment is about 500 years father down the time-line than the books.

You'll be able to "peek" a little at the future of Midkemia (from the book point-of-view) in the next computer game, Return to Krondor, because one of the tasks will involved moving into Midkemia's "future" for a while and things will have changed dramatically.

Best, R.E.F.
